Thread count is used as a marketing metric, not a quality metric. Brands use multi-ply yarns and twisted weaving techniques to inflate counts to 1,000, 1,200, even 1,800. What actually determines how sheets feel: the quality of the cotton fiber, the weave structure, and whether the fabric needs chemical treatment to feel soft.
